!! First Steps
Mark Barnes created [[Tutorial # 2 - *First Steps* video >> http://www.logosbiblesoftwaretraining.com/videos/first-steps/]] that covers the basics of using Logos Bible Software: finding, opening and reading a book; the Home Page and “Go” button; setting your preferred Bible. It introduces the three guides: Passage Guide, Exegetical Guide and Bible Word Study, and demonstrates searching, before showing you how to resize and move panels and tabs.
There is a lot to learn in Logos. But if you start with learning just a few features at a time and at your own pace push yourself to learn others, you will master Logos. As with any new programs it takes time to learn and gain in depth understanding and Logos is no different. So below are some suggested places to start.

Wiki has [[Logos Basics >> Logos4 Basics]]
* Learn about your [[Library]]
* Learn how to [[open resources >> layouts # Opening your resources (books)]]
* Learn how to [[navigate in your resources >> Navigating a Resource (controls in the Locator bar)]]
* Learn how to [[Link books together >> Linking Resources]]
* Learn how to use/create [[Layouts]]
* Learn how to [[compare different bibles >> Text Comparison]] in your Library i.e. Text Comparison.
* Learn how to [[prioritize your books >> Prioritizing]] in your Library
* Learn how to [[use highlighting >> Highlighting]] in a resource
* Learn how to use the [[Right Click Menu]] inside your resources
* Learn how to use the [[Search >> Search Help]] tool
* Learn the basics about [[Guides]]
* Learn about some of the [[documents]] that you can create in Logos

Look at Passage and Exegetical Guide sections for *your* bible study - can [[customize Passage and Exegetical Guides >> Customizing the Passage and Exegetical Guides]].  By default, Passage Guide includes several sections that retrieve information from internet.

*Tip:* Change Text Comparison link set to *Follow* for smoother scrolling in Bible.  Optionally close Text Comparison since you can highlight Bible verse(s) and press *F7* for a /pop-up/ comparison of Top 5 Bibles (on Mac, if "Use all F1, F2, etc. keys as standard keys" in Keyboard preferences is unchecked, then *(fn)* key needs to be pressed with *F7*).
*Tip:* Use Settings in the *Word by Word* section of a custom Exegetical Guide to restrict the output for faster scrolling if your passage is a bible Chapter.  Optionally create a custom Guide with only *Word by Word* section when you want a detailed report for several verses or chapters.
*Tip:* Windows Control key is equivalent to Command key on Mac.

!! Home Page
Wiki has [[Logos Basics >> Logos4 Basics]] that has Home Page "GO" tutorial.
Wiki has [[Home Page Basics >> Visual Glossary – Home Page]] with an introduction to the GO/Command box(s).

*Tip:* If you press *F9*, Logos will play audio explanation of screen parts. As the audio is playing, a flaming image hovers over the screen part, together with a description box.
*Tip:* Use [[customised Passage and Exegetical Guides >> Customizing the Passage and Exegetical Guides]] as it takes some time to populate all sections of a default Guide.
*Tip:* Collapse Guide sections for further speed improvements.
*Tip:* Change Text Comparison link set from A to Follow for smoother scrolling in Bible.  Optionally close Text Comparison since can highlight Bible verse(s) in Logos and press *F7* for pop-up Text Comparison of Top 5 Bibles.  On Mac, if "Use all F1, F2, etc. keys as standard keys" in Keyboard preferences is unchecked, then *(fn)* key needs to be pressed with *F7*.
*Tip:* Use [[Layouts >> # Layouts]] to retain your preferences for different studies.

!! Layouts
Wiki has [[Layouts]], [[Linking Resources]], and [[Layouts useful to Users]]

After you become more comfortable with Logos you will want to create your own [[Layouts]]. A layout will contain your [[resources >> layouts # Opening your resources (books)]] and [[tools >> Table of Contents # Tools]] in the main Logos window. To open Logos to your Layout rather than the /Home Page/ you will need to [[turn off this default >> Layouts # How do I get a layout to show when I open Logos?]], and Logos will save your current layout when it exits. The next time that you open Logos you (…)
You will probably want to create named Layouts for various studies. To do this you will open & arrange resources and tools, then [[save the Layout >> layouts # How do you save your current Layout?]] with a specific name. You can open a saved layout out by clicking on the Layout button, then in the drop down menu find your named layout on the right and click on it.
If you have a preferred Layout, you [[can add it >> layouts # How can you create a shortcut to open a Layout?]] to the [[shortcuts bar]] which will allow you to open that layout with a single mouse click.

*Tip:* Start with pre-defined [[QuickStart layouts >> https://community.logos.com/forums/t/129249.aspx]] for your study.
*Tip:* Save layouts for later use.
*Tip:* You can link resources so that when one scrolls the other scrolls, change where hyperlinks open, change the text size in one or all resources, use reading view or floating windows to maximise your reading experience.
