* The Locator bar is available on each of your resources.

* It contains some tools andlocationdetails.

* It containslocationdetailsand toolsfornavigatingwithintheresource.

 

!!! What are the tools on the Locator bar?

*a)* Table of Contents toggle button. \\ Allows you to open or close the Table of Contents. \\ For *Logos 8+*: click the /Sidebar/ icon on the Toolbar.

 

*b)* Contents location \\ Shows you where you are relative to the Table of Contents.

 

*c)* Navigation choice \\ Shows which navigation choice that you have selected. \\ If clicked on, a drop down list appears with selections.

 

*d)* Navigation arrows \\ Navigates forward or backward relative to the /Navigation choice/ above.

 

*e)* Close button \\ Closes the Locator bar.

!!! I don't see the Locator bar

* To open it follow these steps:

 #.  Open the /Panel menu/.

 #.  Click on the *Show locator bar*. \\ \\ {{$ media:NavLocator2a.jpg?maxheight=375 }} \\ \\ /or/ \\

 #.  Select *Show locator bar*.

* Make sure that the resource is active, then press *Ctrl+Shift+L*.

* Alternatively, use the keyboard shortcut *Ctrl+Shift+L*~/*Shift+Cmd+L*.

#. Contents location \\ Shows you where you are relative to the Table of Contents.

#. Navigation choice \\ Shows which navigation choice that you have selected. \\ If clicked on, a drop down list appears with selections.

#. Navigation arrows \\ Navigates forward or backward relative to the /Navigation choice/ above.

#. Close button \\ Closes the Locator bar.

!!! Typical Navigation choices

These choices are typically what you will see in the Navigation list when you click on the current /Navigation choice/.

  * *Article* -- moves to next/previous heading e.g.

    * pericope in a Bible, heading in a Commentary, or the next dictionary entry.

  * *Book* -- moves to the next/previous book /of the Bible/

   * e.g. in Bibles and Bible Commentaries

  * *Chapter* -- move to the next/previous chapter /of the Bible Book/.

   * N/A to other books

  * *Verse* -- moves to the next/previous /bible verse/.

   * works with books that use Bible indexing (N/A to other books)

  * *Reference* [not shown] -- moves to the next/previous /reference/

   * usually in books with articles.

   

Other choices arise because of markups and searches in the book:

 

!!! Using the /Forward/ and /Backward/ arrows

  * *Filter Highlight* -- moves to the next/previous [[Visual Filter]] highlight

    * only works when you have selected items under *Visual Filters* in the /Visual filters/ menu.

  * *Search Result* -- moves to the next/previous /result/ following a Search of the book.

  * *Annotation* -- moves to the next/previous Note or Highlight in the book

    * only works when you have selected items under *Notes and Highlights* in the /Visual filters/ menu.

    * it is not as effective if you have /filtered/ your Notes and Highlights from the [[Sidebar >> https://support.logos.com/hc/en-us/articles/360016827731-Navigating-within-a-Resource#h_925205284181543600734229]].

!!! Using the Navigation arrows

* These arrow will move your location in your resource per the /Navigation choice/. \\ \\ {{$ media:NavLocator3b.jpg }} \\ \\

 * The up arrow moves to the previous navigation point.

 * The down arrow moves to the next navigation point. \\ \\

* Your current /Navigation choice/ appears to the left of the arrows. \\ \\ {{$ media:NavLocator3c.jpg }} \\ \\

* If you are using the /Search/ tool, the search results in your book can be navigated after changing the /Navigation choice/ to *Search Result*.

* In the example below the NIV bible has search results for the phrase "Kingdom of Heaven". It now has a new item (*Search Result*) in the navigation list. \\ \\ {{$ media:NavLocator4b.jpg }} \\ \\

 

* After you select *Search Result*, press the /down/ navigation arrow and it will move the location in your NIV resource to the first/next search result. \\ \\ {{$ media:NavLocator4c.jpg }} \\ \\ \\

!!! Annotation Navigation choice

* If you have Notes or Highlights in your resource, then the item *Annotation* can appear in the navigation list.

* *Annotation* will appear only when you have selected items under *Notes and Highlights* in the /Visual filters/ menu. Then you can use the navigation arrows to move forward & backward to /annotated/ text.

* In *Logos 8*, faceted browsing for this is available in the Sidebar.

!!! Visual Filter Navigation choice

* See [[Visual Filter]] for setting up /Visual Filters/.

* If you have *Visual Filters* setup and turned on in your resource's /Visual filters/ menu, then a new navigation item (*Filter Highlight*) will appear in the navigation list. \\ \\ {{$ media:NavLocator6a.jpg }} \\

* You can navigate within your resource using your keyboard instead of the navigation arrows {{$ media:NavLocator3b.jpg }} \\ \\  

* The keyboard shortcuts are:

* Forward --keycombination*Alt + DownArrow*

* Forward -- *Alt + DownArrow*

 * Backward -- key combination *Alt + UpArrow* \\ \\

   * *Shift+Cmd+Down Arrow*

 

 * Backward --  *Alt + Up Arrow*

   * *Shift+Cmd+Up Arrow*

* As you navigate through your resource this Contents Location changes to show you where you are within your resource.

* It is more than just a contents text identifier. It is a series of links. \\ \\  {{$ media:NavLocator4c.png }} \\ \\

* You can quickly navigate backwards to:

 * Sub headings

 * Beginning of the chapter

!!! Viewing the Table of Contents

 {{$ media:NavLocator4d.png }} \\ \\  *a)*  Clicking on this icon will show or hide the Table of Contents. \\ For *Logos 8*, click the /Sidebar/ icon on the Toolbar. \\ The TOC will open in a sidebar to the left of your resource. \\ \\

 {{$ media:NavLocator4e.png }} \\ \\  *b)*  For items that are not fully visible, you can hold your mouse over that item and a pop-up will appear with the full item. \\ \\

 {{$ media:NavLocator4f.png }} \\ \\   *c)*  You can resize the Table of Contents sidebar by grabbing the right vertical edge and dragging it.
