!! What is a Reading Plan?
!!!! Overview
A /Reading Plan/ is a tool of Logos which allows you to setup the reading of a Bible or book in a specified time period, and aids you in tracking your progress. You can setup as many reading plans as you like. This wiki page will provide the basic information in setting up a reading plan and using the reading plan. For specific custom reading plans see this wiki page: [[Reading Plans]].
In a /Reading Plan/ you can read a whole book or a part of a book. For a Bible, you can select any of its books/chapters to read each day e.g. you can set a plan to read through the New Testament, or you could set a plan to read through Psalms and the New Testament. \\ You can choose which days of the week to read the book e.g. you could read through the Bible daily and have another Plan to read another book on Monday, Wednesday, & Friday.
In a /Reading Plan/ you can read a whole book or a part of a book, and you can choose which days of the week to read the book e.g. daily, every weekday, or on set days; which means you could have another Plan for the remaining days of the week.
Whilst there is a great deal of flexibility in setting up your reading plan(s), you still might find some limitations e.g. Logos will try to divide your reading equallyacross the time frame that you specify, butitmay not be the way that you wanted to read the book.
Whilst there is a great deal of flexibility in setting up your reading plan(s), you still might find some limitations e.g.thewaythatLogos will try to divide your reading across the time frame that you specify may not be the way that you wanted to read the book.
!!!! Selecting the portion of the book to read
Logos provides a method for breaking up what you read in a book or Bible. If you are setting up a plan for a Bible, then you can break it down by Bible book/chapter/verse, and you can also specify that it will be /read/ by chapter or pericope, or accept the /default/, where Logos tries to divide your reading into equal parts over the time period that you specify e.g. by selecting parts of chapters/pericopes.
When breaking a non-Bible into parts obviously you cannot do this like a Bible. But if Logos has your book /indexed/ by page number, you can specify which pages that you want to read. So if you want to read a multi-chapter section of a Systematic Theology book, you could specify which page number to start with and which page number to stop with. But Logos will default to reading by chapter if you generate the reading plan from the resource (SEE BELOW).
!!!! Setting up a Reading Plan
Logos provides a Reading Plan editor. You will use this when first setting up your reading plan, and you can make further changes until you commence /reading/. Some plans cannot be changed after that (SEE BELOW), but Logos will /restart/ other reading plans. So it is best to setup your plan and edit it before you actually start your reading.

!! Starting a Reading Planfromthemenu
Logos provides a Reading Plan editor. You will normally use this when first setting up your reading plan. You can edit your Reading Plan, but if you do so after you have started your reading plan Logos will restart your reading plan. So it is best to setup your plan and edit it before you actually start your reading. There are 5 sub-sections under this wiki heading which will step you through using the Reading Plan editor to setup a reading plan. Also you might want to view the [[Examples >> # (…)

#. Logos opens the Reading Plan editor in a tab.
It will be initially started for your [[Preferred Bible >> Choose preferred Bible]]. The name of the Reading Plan will automatically be changed as you setup different areas in the reading plan editor, so there is no need to rename it at this time.

\\ \\
!!! _Selecting the portion of the book to read_
!!! Selecting when to finish reading your book
Logos provides a method for breaking up what you read in a book or Bible. If you are setting up a plan for a Bible, then you can break it down by Bible books e.g. Genesis, Matthew, etc. (including chapters and verses). For Bibles you can also specify how it will be /read/ e.g. /default/, by /chapter/, or by /pericope/.
Start by selecting the date when you want to finish reading your book. \\ Note that *Today* is the default /start/ date and that can be changed afterward, if necessary. \\ \\
If you wanted to read Genesis through Deuteronomy, then Matthew through John, and you setup it up to be read daily over a 3 month period, Logos will specify what is to be read each day. On the last day of the 3rd month you would read the last of John. During that time you may have read multiple chapters/pericopes in a day, or even read part of a chapter in a day. Logos tries to divide your reading into equal parts over the time period that you specified.
[[{{$ http://wiki.logos.com/media/ReadinPlanBasics1l.png?maxwidth=600 }} >> http://wiki.logos.com/media/ReadinPlanBasics1l.png]] \\ \\
When breaking a non-Bible into parts obviously you cannot do this like a Bible. But if Logos has your book /indexed/ by page number, you can specify which pages that you want to read (see [[I cannot set page numbers in the Reading Plan >> # I cannot set page numbers for my book in the Reading Plan ]] to help you determine how your book is Indexed). For example say that you want to read a multi-chapter section of a Systematic Theology book. You could specify which page number to start with and (…)
#. In the editor to the right of *finishing* click on the date (default is *in one year*).
!!!! • Reading the entire book
#. Click here to read you book in 1 year.
This is the default for books (even Bibles). You will notice *All Passages* in the editor toolbar. If the range selection is missing, then you book is probably not /indexed/ and Logos will assume that you want to read the whole book.
#. Click here to read you book in 6 months.
#. Click in here and type the number of weeks that you want to finish reading your book.
{{$ media:ReadinPlanBasics1e.png }}
#. Click in here and enter the number of reading sessions that you want to read your book in.
#. If you have changed this and want to restore it to the entire book, click on the book range to the right of the title.
#. *Bibles only*. Click in here and enter the number of verses per day that you want to read (Logos will compute the number of sessions for you).
#. In the drop down range menu, click on *All Passages*.
